Getting your blog indexed in the search engines can seem impossible sometimes. It can often be so random! One blog gets indexed in a matter of minutes, while another one takes weeks. While the search engines don’t reveal their exact formula for indexing, there are some methods that have been proven to work for many bloggers out there.

Of course, many people decide that the first thing they should do to get their blog indexed is to submit it to the search engines by hand. There is actually a lot of disagreement on this point! Some people think the search engines look upon this favorably, and other people think that hand submission can hurt you.

The bottom line here is that it really doesn’t seem to hurt your rankings, but it’s best to keep in mind that the search engines “know it’s you” who is submitting the site. What they want are votes of confidence from other established sites out there. That’s why it’s better to concentrate on those.

If you already have a network of sites then you have a huge advantage. All it takes is a relevant contextual link on one of those sites and you’ll often get indexed very quickly. This is especially true If you have access to a site that gets indexed often.

Not everyone has established sites, however! The good thing is that there are sites out there that allow you to put your content on their site. Article directories are one example. If you write an article for a site like EzineArticles.com with a link back to your site in the author’s resource box, the chances are good that you will get indexed fairly quickly. You can also add your content and links to sites like HubPages.com, Squidoo.com, and others.

Another thing you can do is make sure you submit your RSS feed to directories. There are RSS directories out there that alert people (and spiders) that your content has been updated. This can increase your chances of getting indexed. Some examples of sites you can submit to include Feedagg.com and Feedage.com.

Yet another piece of the puzzle is writing great content and updating often. There is no exact formula for this, but we do know that Google likes content! If you can write a few posts right off the bat to show that you’re going to be a great, relevant site, there is a larger chance that your site will get indexed.

If you still haven’t made it into the search engines it is going to take a bit more effort. Usually a combination of a few of these will work well. Also, a little bit of patience goes a long way. It’s not unusual to wait a week or more for the magic to happen! Still, by following the suggestions above you’ll find that you get indexed fairly quickly and often.

There is much that is written about leadership; like books on leadership styles, techniques and also biographies of leaders that have inspired people to action. While this is true, there is the everyday leadership and a slightly different outlook to leadership as well. Here are a few of them.

1. There Are Different Kinds of Leaders

Among leaders are formal and informal leaders. Formal leaders are elected to their positions like congressmen, senators and office bearers of clubs. Informal leaders on the other hand are those we look up to because of their experience and wisdom. This could be your parents, grandparents or elders in your community. Informal leaders can also be those that are respected because of their expertise and contributions in certain fields such as Albert Einstein in Theoretical Physics and Leonardo de Vinci in Arts. Whether formal or informal, these leaders practice certain styles. This could be

a. Lewin’s 3 basic leadership styles

- autocratic or authoritative: the leader takes decisions without consulting with others

- democratic or participative: the leader involves the people in the decision-making

- laissez-faire or delegative: the leader’s involvement in decision-making is minimized

b. Likert’s 4 leadership styles

- exploitative authoritative: the leader has a low concern for people and uses such methods as threats and other fear-based methods to achieve conformance

- benevolent authoritative: the leader adds concern for people to an authoritative position

- consultative: the leader makes genuine efforts to listen carefully to ideas, but major decisions are still largely centrally made

- participative: the leader makes maximum use of participative methods, engaging people lower down the organization in decision-making

c. Goleman’s 6 emotional leadership styles

- visionary: the leader inspires, believes in own vision, is empathetic, and explains how and why people’s efforts contribute to the ‘dream’

- coaching: the leader listens, helps people identify their own strengths and weaknesses, counsels, encourages, and delegates

- affiliative: the leader promotes harmony, is nice, empathetic, boosts moral, and solves conflicts

- democratic: the leader is a superb listener, team worker, collaborator, and influencer

- pacesetting: the leader has a strong drive to achieve, has high standards, initiative, but low on empathy and collaboration, impatient, micromanages and is numbers-driven

- commanding: is commanding, threatening, has tight control, monitors studiously, creates dissonance, contaminates everyone’s mood, and drives away talent

2. Leadership Skills Can Be Developed

For some people, leadership seems to be most natural, that it makes you wonder if it is a quality that they are born with. Even if this may be true, without exposure to the right environment, it is possible that they may not develop to their full potential.

You can learn how to become a leader. Attend leadership trainings or leadership seminars. Read books on leadership. You can observe the leadership skills in your daily interactions not only in the working environment but even at home and social environment. This becomes obvious when something goes wrong and you see how this person responds and sets things right.

Observing both formal and informal leadership modes, you can pick up leadership insights and further your knowledge on leadership skills.

Remember, though, that leadership styles are not learnt in a day. It needs daily use to learn from daily experiences and to put your learnt knowledge and skills to the test.

3. Practice Makes Perfect

Theoretical knowledge alone is not sufficient to develop leadership styles. The best way to develop it is to apply it at every opportunity you get. As you get better at it, people will recognize that you take charge when you are around.

Leadership is not only handling situations. It is also how you carry yourself. How you interact with people be it your work colleagues, family, friends or the guy at the bookstore. It is also reflected in how well you manage your personal and organizational responsibilities.

If you keep applying your knowledge, leadership should become a habit to you.

4. Successful Leadership Requires Trust Between The Leader And Team

There is no leader without the team members. The responsibility of achieving objectives is a shared responsibility as the leader alone cannot achieve them.

A person may be made leader as a formal position but this does not necessarily mean that he or she can bring the team together to complete the tasks at hand. Each member will have their own skills that makes them informal leaders in those areas.

The formal leader needs to be able to work together with the team and generate trust to build a cohesive group. Just words are not enough. Appropriate actions will be required to foster trust and to build confidence.

5. Situational Leadership

The type of leadership varies depending on the situation at hand. You cannot just apply the last technique you learnt without due consideration to the situation.

In emergency situations, like a fire, you cannot be consulting everyone on the decision. It is different during normal times, especially when you need everybody’s buy-in. In this case, you will want to take a consultative approach.

The style you choose will also depend on the skill level of your team. For a highly skilled and motivated team, you may use a combination of high delegative and moderate participative styles. But if the team has low competence, you may need to use a combination of high coaching, high supporting and high directing leadership styles.

Leadership styles need to be continually learnt not only through leadership training and books but also from observing other good leaders. Most importantly, practice because the best learning will be that which you learn from your own experience.

Introduction

Many organizations are utilizing email marketing as part of their internet marketing strategy. There are numerous email marketing services provided that support all types of businesses such as: Emma, ConstantContact, Aweber, etc. In today’s environment, businesses are sending emails to promote products & services, cross-sell additional services, inform customers, and provide discount coupons. The question is: Are businesses leveraging email marketing to support multi-tactical internet marketing campaigns?

In most cases, businesses are not leveraging email marketing to drive successful campaigns. Marketers continue to see email marketing as a single tactic that has a limited impact on the goals of their campaigns. The biggest example of this is the lack of integration between databases, website, and email marketing campaigns. A local business owner has a limited amount of hours in a day and a limited amount of resources. However, most of them do not streamline the lead acquisition process to work together. If the systems were integrated, a similar scenario can be applied to large corporations that employ or utilize 3 different employees to do the job of a single email marketing professional. Simply put, the website form does populate to the database, and neither of these automatically feed to the email marketing system. In general, this is a manual process that costs businesses time, resource, and money.

How can effective Email Marketing Help Your Business and Drive Results?

How you ask? Well, let’s start with efficiency. The ability to integrate your website with your business’s database, website forms, and email marketing services tools may cost additional money upfront; however, in the long-run you will not need to use manual processes that require more resources. At DaBrian Marketing Group, we provide businesses will the tools to connect website forms to an email marketing system and eliminate the database itself. In our client’s case, the email marketing system or email marketing service is the database. In addition, you can use event or email triggers to confirm opt-in email addresses after receiving a contact submission form. In less than 30 seconds, you have populated your form into a specific list with the email marketing tool, confirmed an opt-in email, and responded to a prospect with relevant content.

Email triggers can be a useful and impactful tool for customer acquisition & lead generation. We live in a society of instant gratification so being able to deliver relevant information or set the expectation to receive a response to a question is critical. This can help to separate your business from the competition.

The ability to reduce the resources used for an email marketing campaign will reduce the campaign cost. If implemented effectively, email marketing can position your business to be on your customers’ minds and reduce your overall acquisition cost. The bottom-line is Return-on-Investment.

Testing to Drive Results & Revenue?

Once you have become proficient with your automated process, it is time to start testing your email campaigns. There are a number of different tests you can do with a single email campaign. These tests include A/B, A/B/C, and multivariate testing of headers, subject lines, layouts, landing pages or calls-to-action. The more successful your business is at getting customers to open emails, the greater the probability that the customer will respond to your call-to-action. Usually, better open rates and click through rates translate to better ROI.

Conclusion

The truth is that just about every business uses email marketing to communicate with customers. Unfortunately, not every business takes the time to evaluate opportunities to integrate technologies, test, or measure their results. These are simple fundamental businesses practices that should be gone. The ability to establish internal processes and best practices are critical to every business’s success.

The fact that you have an email marketing tool does not mean that what you are communicating is relevant to customers, or even driving results. It is our recommendation that businesses start to take a holistic approach to all internet marketing strategies & tactics. Continue to push the envelope for maximum results that will lead to maximum returns.
